Kidulthood
Finally, the last movie i will be talking about is Kidulthood. The genre of Kidulthood is a gangster movie.
Firstly, i am going to talk about the sound in the first 2 minutes of Kidulthood. To start of with non diegetic hip hop music starts playing as soon as the company ident appears which also gives the audience an idea that it's going to be a gangster movie. There is also diegetic sound used the way people are shouting and talking to each other. Again the dialogue used is slang to represent them as gangsters. There are represented negatively the way they disrespect everyone by swearing to get their attention which shows that its a harsh and mean area. But, this is what made the movie so realistic because gangsters won't act happy and cheerful.
Again, their were many cuts used in the first two minutes to show the audience that there is alot going on at once. Many different angles were used to show the audience what was happening. There was also a guy texting someone on his mobile and another person giving away invitations to a party which.
The costume used in the first two minutes was the most important piece of the first scene the way it clearly shown the genre of the movie, the way that they were wearing hoodies and hats even at school. Many of the boys at the school had a crazy face on as though they were going to rip someone's head off the way everyone looked so serious which also made it realistic the way that none of them were happy. A guy and girl are also shown kissing in the scene before class and then shown a close up of the guy and he had a hat on which clearly shown he was a gangster too like the other's.
Finally, i will talk about the editing used which were mostly fast showing that there was alot going on the way it went from a guy handing out invitations to a party to a person kissing a girl. There were also many close up showing people's serious facial reactions showing that they were up to no good and they were all gangsters.Everyone in that scene was shown as doing something different which shown it was a school full of gangsters.
Adulthood
The second opening movie sequence i looked at was Adulthood which was also a movie in the gangster genre. There were more examples of sound, editing, camera and mise en scene used in the opening sequence.
To start off with i will to talk about sound which was used in the opening sequence which was hip hop music which related with the movie Adulthood as it symbolised the gangster genre. The artists who sing hip hop music are usually also gangster so it mixes in with the Adulthood opening sequence quite well. The dialogue used in the movie is slang which is how gangsters talk which makes the film more realistic because if they have posh accents it wouldn't sound so good.
Next, i will talk about the editing which were in the opening 2 minutes of Adulthood. Their were frequent cuts which appeared in the opening scene showing what was happening and which also shown what type of area it was which was quite clearly an urban area like South London. Their were also scenes which were in slow motion and some scenes which were a little faster to show you around to give you the idea that it was a crazy neighbourhood. Their were also a scene where it shown two different places which gave us the thought that it was a busy place and that alot of things were happening at once.
Thirdly, i am going to talk about the camera techniques used in the first 2 minutes of Adulthood. Their is an estbalishing shot to show everything which was taking place in the scene. It was shown as a very dangerous area when their were medium shots showing people smoking and drinking alcohol would tell the audience straight away that it was going to be a bad neighbourhood.
The Mise en scene which was used in the movie Adulthood were mostly baggy clothing like long chains, baggy t shirts, hats, branded trainers e.g. nike, adidas, Hoodies and expensive jewellery to clearly state to the audience that they were gangsters. The weapons used in the scene also shown that they were gangsters the way that most of them carried a gun or a knife to protect themselves. Many of the characters in the scene were disrespectful to each other which shown they were mean people. This is shown when in the first two minutes someone is getting robbed and then gets shot on the leg.

Introducing myself and my group
Hi, My name is Sohil. I am currently working on my AS media studies opening sequence to our movie. My favourite genre of movie is Comedy, Action and horror. My favourite movies are The Hangover, Scream 1-4, Taking of Pelham 123, Bad Company, Bad Boys and the Enemy Of The State. I am working on a gangster movie with my partner Shahroz who is the main actor in our opening sequence whilst i am filming the movie.
What we learnt in the lesson
In the lesson we learnt five different codes which are used to tell something to the audience. The hermeneutic code also known as the enigma code is the question which the audience will be thinking about what will happen next and want to find out the answer. The hermeneutic code was used to gain interest from the audience to make them want to watch more. Also, the hermeneutic code is used to attract the audience so that they would want to know what happens as the movie goes on which wouldn't make it boring for them to watch. e.g. Kidulthood which was the prequel to Adulthood really caught the audience's eye which is why Adulthood made such a huge income, all because the audience wanted to know what happened after Kidulthood.
Partial Answers was also another term which we learnt in the lesson which meant when there a little piece revealed to the audience about what was going to happen throughout the film then in it showing the audience what happens next at the end of the movie.
The third term we learnt was Equivocation which was a term to confuse the audience to keep them interested in the film. A good example of this was the Deputy Judy Hicks who was played by Marley Shelton. Now most of the audience would have thought she was the ghostface who was behind all of the murders in Woodsboro which would have made the audience think that it would have been to obvious to be her which lead the audience to be even more interested in the movie and then when the murderer gets revealed the audience will all be really confused and think why she was the one behind it all?
Jamming was the fourth term we learnt in the lesson which meant a problem that could never be solved.
Finally, the last code was called The Proairetic Code which is also known as the action code which means that it relates to any other scene or action which shows the audience that something else is about to happen.
Target Audience
When in the process of making a movie, target audience is the most important thing to know about. Whether it is horror, action or comedy. There will also have to be a specific audience who your movie will be aimed at. Target Audience is an important thing to know so that it will help you decide what should be included and what shouldn't .For example if it was a horror movie like Friday the 13th, the target audience will be aimed at adults or if it is a cartoon movie like toy story it will be aimed mostly at children. This shows us that there should always be a good understanding of what sort of content is suitable for what type of movie. The targeted audience for my movie 'Notorious Enemy' is people aged between 16-24 because they are the ones who are most likely to be interested in gangsters. I also thought that as youths i don't really think they would want to watch a comedy movie over a gangster movie. Some teenagers of young adults would be very scared of being in a situation where they are being robbed on the streets especially if a younger person was trying to rob them. I'm sure anyone would feel embarrased and also scared if they were to be robbed by anyone whether they are younger or older. We tried to make this movie be as realistic as we could by someone getting robbed then trying to fight back to get his belongings back but then he dies. Which should tell the audience that it is best to report to robbery than trying to retaliate.
