Tuesday's lesson on Opening sequences.
On Tuesday we learnt about many things which relate when it comes to opening sequences such as a company indent eg Walt Disney Pictures. We also went over the pieces of the beginning of any movie which is what is clearly shown to the audience in the first two minutes. Such as the director, who the movie is starring, the producer and usually it has like a thirty second clip showing the main character showing maybe who he is or shows us what he does or sometimes doesn't even show us much about the character such as in the movie "I Am Legend" when it shows Will Smith having a shower and getting dressed, It has completely nothing to do with the actual story behind it all which leaves the audience thinking that the movie might just be boring. But when it all kicks in then the audience start to know a little more about the movie and then would want to know even more. Also in the lesson on Opening Sequences we learnt about the hermeneutic code which are narrative nigmas that are questions with no answers which then makes the audience want to read more, These are used more often at the beginning of movies such as in i Robot. The Proairetic code was another part we also learnt which is an action that leave the audience trying to figure out what the outcome will be within a problem or arguement in a movie. This creates suspension and tension because none of the audience will know what is going to happent next.

Four Brothers
The genre of the movie “Four Brothers” is action and is the same genre as my group are doing for the opening scene of my movie. In the first couple of seconds it shows a two shot, where it has two cars pulling up and it shows a lady pulling up out of one and does not show who is in the other. There is then a close up when is shows the lady is stopping the car and then is about to get out. A medium close up is then used showing the lady opening the door to get out of the car. The other car is then shown using a close up which clearly shows us that something is about to happen or go wrong. The next camera shot which gets shown is an over the shoulder shot showing who the lady is talking to and then a two shot is used half way through what she is saying to the boy. Another two shot is then used showing the lady and the boy talking to the man behind the tills telling the man to call the police. After that it shows an establishing shot showing us that it is an off licence little shop also showing us that the man is getting on the phone to ring up the police. There is then another two shot showing the lady to say stop or put down the phone in a gesture because the boy is apoligising. Another over the shoulder shot is then used showing that the lady is pretending to look serious so that the boy is shown as being very sorry. Then a medium close up is then used showing the boy and the lady talking again. Another over the shoulder shot is used when the lady is telling the boy off for attempting to shoplift, another over the shoulder shot is used after that showing the boy’s reaction’s which is also a reaction shot. There is then another two shot where the boy is saying “I wont steal anymore sir” again showing his reactions showing us that he is very sorry and nervous. There is then another wide shot being shown when the lady tells the boy to get out. There a close up when the two robbers bust down the door and put a gun towards the man behind the till. There is a close up of one of the robbers lips when he shouts “now” showing that he wants the money from the till. There is then another over the shoulder shot on of the robbers putting a gun towards the man behind the tills. There is then a two shot showing the man grabbing the money and the gun that is being aimed at the man. Before the man behind the tills gets shot it showing a reaction shot of him with his hands up which signifies he surrenders and then he gets shot.
The mise en scene used in this extract are casual clothes and other bits of clothing like the skull hat that the boy is wearing and the balaclava the two robbers are wearing this signifies that they are both robbers. There are also guns used. The lighting used in this scene is from a normal light bulb. The acting throughout is very serious and some bits where it shows that they are scared. There are then lights coming from the gunshot when the two robbers find the lady and shoot her.
The sound used is There is diegetic music that starts playing in the first car that pulls up. Serious dialogue is used almost throughout the extract and then there is a scream showing that the lady is scared. The gunshot is a non diegetic sound where it shows the gun is being fired when a light starts flashing through the window.
The only editing techniques I really found in this extract from “four brothers” were the cuts because there weren’t much types of editing used within the first five minutes of the extract.
